Shipping Container Conditions

Used

Our used shipping containers are pre-owned containers that have been in service for one or more trips. They can provide a practical and cost-effective solution for storage, transportation, modification projects, and other applications.Used containers may show normal signs of wear from previous use, including scratches, dents, surface rust, and other cosmetic imperfections. Their condition can vary depending on their age, service history, maintenance, and previous repairs.Used containers are a popular choice for customers looking for dependable functionality at a more affordable price than newer units.

New One Trip

New One Trip containers are manufactured overseas and typically used for a single loaded voyage before being sold for other applications. Because they have had very limited service, they generally offer a clean appearance with minimal wear. These containers are an excellent choice for customers who want a newer, high-quality container for storage, transportation, conversion projects, offices, workshops, or other applications. One Trip containers normally have their original factory finish and may have minor handling marks from transportation. They offer one of the newest container options available outside the factory.

Refurbished

Refurbished containers are used containers that have been repaired, prepared, and restored to improve their appearance and functionality.Refurbishment may include repairs, rust treatment, repainting, door adjustments, floor repairs, or replacement of damaged components, depending on the scope of work performed.A refurbished container can be an excellent choice for customers who want a more presentable container for storage, offices, workshops, conversions, or other projects.Because refurbishment work can vary from one container to another, customers should confirm the specific repairs and improvements included with each unit.

Used shipping containers are inspected and graded based on factors such as age, structural condition, exterior and interior appearance, repair history, and overall serviceability. The following grades are commonly used when evaluating containers.

Wind And Water Tight

Wind and Water Tight (WWT) containers are used containers intended to keep normal wind and rain from entering the container when properly closed. They are commonly used for storage, workshops, agricultural applications, construction sites, and other projects where the container will remain in one location.WWT containers may have normal cosmetic wear, including dents, scratches, surface rust, and signs of previous use. This condition focuses on weather protection rather than international shipping certification. If you intend to transport cargo internationally, additional inspection and applicable shipping certification should be confirmed for the specific container.

Cargo Worthy (CW) containers are structurally sound and suitable for transporting cargo by sea or land. They have passed inspection to ensure they remain weather-resistant and safe for freight use.
Recommended for:

  • Export shipping
  • Long-term storage
  • Construction sites
  • Commercial applications

IICL (IICL-6)

IICL containers are inspected according to established inspection and repair criteria associated with the Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL).These containers are generally intended for customers who require a higher level of inspection and maintenance standards, particularly for leasing, fleet, and long-term transportation applications.IICL condition focuses on defined inspection and repair criteria rather than simply the cosmetic appearance of the container. Customers requiring IICL equipment should confirm the specific inspection standard and documentation applicable to the container being purchased.IICL status and CSC certification are separate considerations, so the applicable documentation should be verified for the intended use.

AS IS

AS IS containers are sold in their current condition without an implied guarantee that they meet a particular performance or condition standard. These containers may have significant cosmetic wear, dents, rust, repairs, floor damage, or other imperfections depending on the individual unit.AS IS containers can be suitable for customers looking for a budget-friendly option, repair projects, fabrication, parts recovery, or applications where cosmetic condition is not the main priority.Because the condition can vary considerably, customers should inspect the specific container or request detailed inspection information before purchasing.

Which Container Condition Is Right For You?

Intro

The right container condition depends on how you plan to use the container, your budget, and the level of appearance, protection, and certification you require.

Consider the following options when choosing a container for your project:

International Shipping

Cargo Worthy / CSC-Approved Container

If the container will be used for international cargo transportation, choose a container that meets the applicable transportation and safety requirements.

For containers subject to the International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC), verify that the specific container has the appropriate CSC Safety Approval Plate and that its examination status is current for the intended use. The CSC establishes safety requirements and inspection/approval procedures for containers used in international transport.

Best for:

  • International cargo transportation
  • Import and export
  • Ocean freight
  • Intermodal transportation

Always confirm the specific container’s documentation and current certification before arranging international shipment.

Storage

Wind And Water Tight

For stationary storage, a Wind and Water Tight (WWT) container can be a practical choice when your primary goal is protecting stored items from normal wind and rain.

WWT containers may show normal signs of previous use, including dents, scratches, surface rust, and other cosmetic imperfections.

Best for:

  • Personal storage
  • Business inventory
  • Equipment storage
  • Construction sites
  • Agricultural storage
  • General stationary storage

WWT condition does not by itself mean that a container is approved for international shipping.

Newer Appearance

New One Trip

If appearance, cleanliness, and minimal previous use are important, a New One Trip container can be an excellent option.

These containers have typically been used for a limited initial transportation voyage and generally have less wear than older used containers.

Best for:

  • Storage
  • Container conversions
  • Workshops
  • Offices
  • Commercial projects
  • Long-term projects where appearance matters

New One Trip containers may still have minor handling or transportation marks.

Improved Appearance

Refurbished

If you want a used container that has undergone repairs or cosmetic improvements, a Refurbished container may be a suitable choice.

Depending on the specific unit, refurbishment may include repairs, rust treatment, repainting, door adjustments, floor repairs, or replacement of damaged components.

Best for:

  • Storage
  • Workshops
  • Offices
  • Conversion projects
  • Customers seeking an improved appearance at a potentially lower cost than a new container

The scope of refurbishment can vary, so review the specific product description before purchasing.

Budget Projects

AS IS

For repair, fabrication, modification, parts recovery, or projects where appearance and condition are less important, an AS IS container may provide a more economical starting point.

AS IS containers may have significant wear, dents, rust, floor damage, repairs, or other imperfections.

Best for:

  • Fabrication projects
  • Repair projects
  • Custom conversions
  • Parts recovery
  • Temporary applications
  • Budget-conscious projects

Because condition can vary significantly, carefully review the specific container’s condition before purchasing.
